Beginnings
Dittons District Rangers and Senior
Section Unit
Dittons District Rangers started in the autumn of 1980 and was one of the
largest Ranger units in Surrey West up until the end of the 1990’s.
There was also a Hinchley Wood Ranger
unit 1974-1981
1st Hinchley Wood Guides
was registered on 28th June 1937, so Guiding has been in Hinchley Wood for 73 eventful years! In 1974 the units met in a new, purpose-built HQ that is still shared with the Scouts to this day, since then the Guides have been able to expand their activities. The creation of 3rd Hinchley Wood Guides
on 1st October 1975 was designed to meet growing the demand for Guiding in the area, as there were already two over-subscribed Guide units in existence, so a new unit had to be created.1st Hinchley Wood Brownies
was
registered in
1936 and has been a thriving, busy pack. We currently meet at Lynwood HQ in
Hinchley Wood on a Friday and follow many of the traditional ways. Our sixes
are still kelpies, elves, pixies and ghillie dhu and we still have a
toadstool and a leader called Brown Owl.
2nd
Hinchley Wood Brownies was registered at
headquarters on 24th May 1963. As far as I am aware it has been
open all this time so not long to our 50th anniversary
1st Hinchley Wood Rainbows was started on 12 September 1988 by Jane Barnett, Lesley Archer and Eileen Gilmour. Since this time it has been taken over by Tracey Fox and Sally Burns. Tracey was actually a Rainbow herself in one of the first intakes at Hinchley Wood and her name appears on the register in the book we still use today.
